  • A few problems: 1. Elon did not found Neuralink. 2. The Robot you mention at 7:07 is a WO 2016 patent Prior Art, not invented by Neuralink 3. "Neuralink electrodes" at 5:50 aren't Neuralink electrodes, they come as part of the abovementioned Prior Art. Neuralink patented a method of sticking a bunch of these electrodes into a kind of cartridge. 4. Surgeon dexterity vs this robot. We have assistive devices like DaVinci which put this sewing machine to shame. 5. Neuralink prototype at 8:19 doesn't seem to share anything with the sewing machine implantable threads (this has since been updated I believe -- Neuralink moved away from chip implants and to threads + implant on skull instead of behind ear). 6. "It's wireless" wireless devices run hotter than wired devices. We don't do wired devices because we're dumb, we do wired devices because we like keeping the patient alive. Kindly familiarize yourself with the patents of Neuralink here: patents.justia.com/assignee/neuralink-corp

  • Wrong. Nueralink is an advanced form of nuerofeedback that interfaces directly with brain tissue. While the initial use will be for therapy and helping people with severe brain injuries, having the ability to directly detect and process brain signals will inevitably lead to the use of nueralink as a BCI due to the innate advantage of not having to use muscles to communicate. Elon musk already said in a recent podcast that they have monkeys playing games with their mind so the technology already exists.

  • Elon has managed to piss off the entire neuroscience community with Neuralink, and I say, GOOD. It needed this kick in the ass. Scientists love to fuck around in the brain without ever actually accomplishing anything for mental health, and will always say, "Ten years out." And ten more years down the road they will say the same thing. Engineers will actually come up with solutions if they have to drag them out of the scientists, and a one-year timeline will actually accomplish something.

  • I don't see tech being a problem but the humans in control will be a problem especially if these can be used to directly control the brain or grab data from it. Imagine if the Soviets had the ability to read the brains of their citizens... even if it's inaccurate and unreliable we know that some political groups would love to de-person you for what they deem wrong-think and so we should ideally push for this tech to be inside the head with no link to the outside world until our species can mature a little. It may not allow us to control exoskeletons but for this to be a good thing we need to be careful who controls what and ensure this cannot be used to pull data from your thoughts, memories, etc or directly control your muscles or sensations. Imagine if there was a AI processor in a future version that was hacked or forced by law to be reprogrammed to dynamically overwrite our visual and audible senses so that we literally cannot hear what a certain someone disagrees with or we could see what is not there. More powerful tech is more dangerous. The tech will eventually work, but I want us to be ready to not abuse this tech as we have most other technologies. The USA for example uses the Internet to spy on its own citizens in collaboration with other nations like Canada and the UK... only this time the info can in theory be what you literally see, do, or think depending on what is hooked to the device since if it can see what you see and someone sniffs the data you are now a walking surveillance camera. For now this tech needs to be self contained and offline with no possible way to like to the outside even by NFC. So good bye exoskeleton and hello connections directly to the muscles with no outside link.

      AshAsh6 maanden geleden
    • @Ash To be fair, working on more effective, safer biomedical devices for neurological disorders is important. But look at the bad press around this company. Many scientists left because musk was pushing extremely difficult deadlines on them. He’s constantly interrupting his scientists and cares only about his public persona, if you watch the livestream. One of the talented scientists would be describing something, actually meaningful, and he’d interrupt just to talk about some bullshit like “enhancing the human brain” or “playing music”. It’s gross. He’s a man child, and he’s getting in the way of progress. He pushes them too hard and has unrealistic expectations. He’s not allowing science to take his natural course. If it weren’t for the fact that they need his money to conduct this research and develop these technologies, I’m sure many of these employees wouldn’t work there.

Besides those technologies haven't been discovered in his companies, he just took them and improved a bit. It's a quite nice scam, cuz there is no chance ever, that all cars can be electric with those batteries that we now have. Lithium is extremely rare in soil, expensive and not ecological at all to mine. So big bullshit. Falcon 9 and SpaceX another bullshit. It's not a new type of space propulsion, it's like put 9 of this together and make them come back. There are new types of propulsion like EmDrive or Hall engine. That is future that we all are looking for and deserve, this will take us to Mars at least , but not this garbage from Musk.
